Loft Zàntíng

The stair is the frame of the project. Each tread is a folded white box, built into the wall on one side only, which frees the underside entirely and turns the flight into a run of suspended shelves.

An oak plinth receives the last tread and carries on into the room. It serves as podium, bench and storage: a long black recess opens along its whole length, under the timber top.

The grey veined stone floor runs in one piece to the bed of pebbles along the window. The balustrade comes down to a single sheet of glass fixed at its foot. Light arrives from a flush recessed track whose black line underscores the ceiling.

Colour arrives by object. A dichroic glass side table throws magenta, gold and cyan patches across the pale stone, and they move with the day; a red resin bulldog on the plinth holds the counterpoint. The rest stays white, grey and oak.
